Tip - MAKING BUZZBAITS
|
|
The purpose of this
section is to introduce the basic components used in
assembling buzzbaits. Buzzbaits are used primarily when fishing
for largemouth bass and pike. Buzzbaits are easy to assemble
and inexpensive to make. Landing a fish on a buzzbait you made
yourself is especially rewarding. Good Fishing! |

WIRE FORMING TOOLS
Round bend pliers have
special jaws that make smooth round loops. Select the
plier model by the size of wire you want to bend. You will
also need some heavy wire cutting pliers to cut the
stainless steel shaft. |

| Frequently Asked
Questions |
- Can I add trailer hooks to my
buzzbait?
Trailers can be added very easily by slipping the large eye of the hook over the original hook and then adding a small piece of
latex tubing over the rest of the main hook to hold the trailer in place.
- Can I use a different size blade?
Maybe. Due to the frame of a
buzzbait, you cannot use a larger blade than is recommended. It will not fit in the frame. You can use a blade one size smaller, but only if you want to use a very fast retrieve speed. If you don't retrieve quickly, the blade won't offer enough lift to keep your bait on the surface.
- What's the difference between metal and plastic blades?
The difference is in the sound they emit as you retrieve the lure. Metal blades offer a high pitch "squeal" when retrieved. Plastic blades tend to offer a low pitch "gurgle" sound.
- Why use 2 blades or a
quad blade?
Blades equal lift. The more blades, the more
lift and the slower the lure can be retrieved.
- How do I add a Clacker Blade to my
buzzbaits?
You must bend the blade arm so that the clacker blade and
spacer beads can be installed on the top arm. After the blade
and beads are in place, bend the blade arm back into its original position. The number of beads needed will vary. You must use enough beads so that the clacker stays in a position to contact the buzz blade.
- What is an offset buzz blade?
The offset style provides your bait with a violent side to side action. This action will create more noise and vibration than a standard buzz blade. |
